Kick Butts Day Unites Youth During
Anti-Tobacco Rally on February 27
WHAT:
Youth advocates of REAL: Hawaii Youth Exposing the Tobacco Industry will stage an anti-tobacco rally as part of advocacy training at the 6th annual Kick Butts Day 2009. The activism demonstration will include an art wall by Kalani High School graffiti artists, slam poetry by Youth Speaks Hawaii and performances by the Ewa Beach Breakdancers. Prior to the rally, Lt. Governor James “Duke” Aiona will greet youth and proclaim February 27, 2009 “Kick Butts Day” in Hawai‘i.

DETAILS:
This year’s Kick Butts Day will bring together nearly 150 youth participants from across the state including students from the Department of Education Peer Education Program, Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island, Molokai Tobacco Free Partnership, American Lung Association, TeenLine Hawaii, MADD Youth in Action, Alu Like of Hana, Hui Malama Ola Na Oiwi, Kokua Kalihi Valley Health Center, WCCHC TEENBEAT, MEO YouthBank, and REAL youth members.
Kicks Butts Day is sponsored by the REAL: Hawaii Youth Exposing the Tobacco Industry, Coalition for Tobacco-Free Hawai‘i, The Hawaii State Department of Health’s Tobacco Prevention and Education Program, The Hawai‘i State Department of Education Peer Education Program, American Cancer Society, Papa Ola Lokahi, Hawaii Public Health Association and Cox Radio Hawai‘i.
