Children & Youth Day 2008
Every year, since 1994, Hawaii has hosted a Children and Youth Day at the state capitol.
For teens, Children and Youth Day hosted a PG-13 Teen Zone for the second year in a row. This year’s Teen Zone featured a Paintball Cave, Fashion Central, an urban artist competition, an expanded sports zone with track racing and soccer exhibitions and much more. TeenLine Hawaii was there as well with a booth full of activities for Hawaii teens.
As well as passing out information brochures and promotional items, TeenLine Hawaii featured a button making section and a “Boozed and Confused” goggles area. The button section turned into an expression session with teens picking out designs, quotes, and logos that expressed them or that they simply liked. In the “Boozed and Confused” goggles area, youth were asked to try on goggles that simulated alcohol intoxication at night. They were to follow a straight line of tape on the ground with one foot in front of the other. The objective: to get teens to realize how confused and disoriented they become under the influence. Both areas were a big hit with teens lining up to do both.
Most would agree, this year’s Children and Youth Day was a huge success, particularly for the PG-13 Teen Zone. For the teens attending, it was an opportunity to join together and share their interests and talents.
